Gatekeeper
Access Control Unit

Description
The Gatekeeper is an access control unit designed for the entry points of Radioactive Controlled Areas. It reads data directly from a worker's Electronic Personal Dosimeter — verifying access rights instantly, with no dependency on an external network. Where connectivity fails or is unavailable, access decisions are not compromised.
The unit operates with relay-controlled turnstiles, door entry systems, and whole-body monitors, connecting via Relay, RS232, or keyboard emulation. A front-facing LED light ring provides immediate visual confirmation of access status — green for granted, red for denied — alongside a configurable sounder for audible feedback. Installation is wall-mounted, surface-mounted, or integrated directly into third-party security hardware. The unit operates from a 5–12 VDC supply via terminal block, with typical power consumption below 10 watts, and includes terminal connectors for integration with third-party systems.
The Gatekeeper supports Thermo EPD MK2 and Thermo TruDose dosimeters, and integrates with the RadSight and RDR-460 ecosystem for complete controlled area management. Installation requires a qualified technician or integrator — the unit is designed for indoor use only.
Key Features
Independent operation
Reads EPD data directly from the worker's dosimeter and verifies access rights without requiring an external network connection. Access decisions are made locally, at the point of entry — so where connectivity fails or is temporarily unavailable, access control is not compromised. This eliminates the single point of failure inherent in network-dependent verification systems.
Unambiguous access feedback
A front-facing LED ring changes colour to indicate access status — green for granted, red for denied — visible at a glance in operational environments. A configurable sounder provides simultaneous audible confirmation.
Flexible integration
Connects to relay-operated turnstiles, door entry systems, and whole-body monitors via Relay, RS232, or keyboard emulation — the three interface options cover the majority of existing facility security hardware without requiring additional adaptors. Wall-mounted, surface-mounted, or integrated directly into third-party security enclosures, with standalone deployment via stand also available.
Compact, purpose-built hardware
At 86 × 86 × 25.5 mm and 88 grams, the Gatekeeper occupies the footprint of a standard wall plate — small enough to integrate into existing door furniture and security enclosures without requiring structural modifications. ABS UL94-V0 housing, IP40 rated, operating from 0 to 40°C with storage down to -20°C.
Dosimeter compatibility
Currently supports Thermo EPD MK2 and Thermo TruDose dosimeters. Works within the wider Charthouse access control ecosystem alongside the RDR-460 and RadSight.
Designed for permanent installation by qualified integrators
The Gatekeeper is designed for indoor use and requires installation by a qualified technician or integrator. This reflects the nature of its application — permanent integration into controlled area entry points, turnstile systems, and whole-body monitor stations where correct installation is a regulatory requirement, not an optional step. Charthouse and its integration partners can support specification and commissioning.
