Description

The Radial Detector Head is a beta particulate aerosol detector designed to operate in conjunction with the RPC-1000 Radiation Process Controller. It continuously samples breathing zone air during high-risk work activities, ensuring DAC and DAC-hr levels remain below prescribed limits. Its dual detector design also provides gamma area monitor functionality for use in dynamic dose rate environments. A third application is emergency plan deployment — ensuring response workers are protected from radioactive airborne contamination during an effluent release, where real-time breathing zone monitoring is operationally critical.

Developed to match the operating characteristics of the Thermo Scientific AMS-4 Radial Detector Head, it delivers equivalent functionality and performance while introducing meaningful improvements. The SMART memory board retains key calibration parameters independently of the RPC-1000 controller unit, eliminating the paired calibration dependency of legacy AMS-4 heads. Detector heads can be swapped between controllers in the field without recalibration — removing a significant source of instrument downtime during shift rotations and maintenance cycles.

Enhanced LED alarm indicators on all four sides of the unit provide visible status confirmation from any approach angle. An adjustable audible alarm and easy-open lid for quick filter paper replacement complete a design that reduces the operational burden on instrumentation staff.

SMART memory board — independent calibration retention

The onboard SMART memory board retains the detector head's calibration parameters independently of the RPC-1000 controller. Detector heads can be swapped between controllers in the field without recalibration — removing the paired calibration dependency of legacy AMS-4 heads and reducing instrument downtime during maintenance or replacement.

Direct replacement for Thermo Scientific AMS-4

Developed to match the operating characteristics and physical form factor of the legacy AMS-4 Radial Detector Head. Equivalent functionality and performance means minimal training and procedural changes are required — existing AMS-4 procedures remain applicable in most cases, and the straight-forward programme implementation minimises change costs. Enhanced design features compared to the legacy AMS-4 deliver improved operational outcomes without requiring requalification.

Enhanced visual and audible alarm indicators

High-visibility LED alarm indicators on all four sides of the unit ensure status is visible from any approach angle in facility environments. An adjustable audible alarm provides configurable alert levels to suit different operational areas.

Dual detector design with gamma area monitor functionality

The dual 5 cm proportional detector configuration provides beta particulate aerosol sampling alongside gamma area monitor functionality. Useful in dynamic dose rate environments where both airborne contamination and gamma dose rate monitoring are required simultaneously.

Quick-access filter paper compartment

An improved easy-open lid allows rapid filter paper replacement during monitoring operations, reducing the time instruments are offline during routine maintenance and minimising disruption to continuous air monitoring coverage.

Improved safety performance through enhanced visual and audible indicators
