RDR-460

Dosimetry Reader and Access Control Station

A fixed access control terminal for Radioactive Controlled Areas. Automates dosimeter issue and return at RCA entry and exit points, with a large glove-operable touchscreen, multi-dosimeter support, and full integration with RadSight Enterprise and Gatekeeper.

Description

The RDR-460 is a permanent access control station designed for the entry and exit points of Radioactive Controlled Areas. It automates the full dosimeter issue and return process — reading worker credentials, issuing the correct dosimeter, and logging dose data — reducing personnel flow bottlenecks and eliminating manual handling errors at controlled area boundaries. As well as integrating with RadSight Enterprise and Gatekeeper, the RDR-460 connects with wider facility access systems — relevant for sites where the dosimetry boundary is part of a larger security and access control infrastructure.

The unit is built for operational environments. Its 18.5-inch Full HD multi-touch display is glove-operable, with 300 cd/m² LED-backlit brightness for visibility in industrial conditions. The aluminium enclosure is IP54 rated and designed for continuous operation. AES-256 encrypted storage protects all dosimetry records by default. Industrial-grade components are specified throughout for continuous, uninterrupted operation in demanding RCA entry point environments.

The RDR-460 integrates with RadSight Enterprise for centralised dosimetry management and with Gatekeeper for complete controlled area access control. It supports EPD MKII, TruDose, RadEye, RadFlash, and DMC dosimetry devices, and connects via dual Ethernet, USB 3.0, RS-232, and GPIO interfaces. Mounting options include wall, floor stand, and desk stand configurations.

Key Features

Automated dosimeter issue and return

Manages the full EPD issue and return cycle at RCA entry and exit points without manual intervention, ensuring proper dosimeter use before RCA entry. Fast issue and return processing reduces personnel flow bottlenecks during shift changes and high-traffic periods — a measurable operational efficiency gain in high-headcount facilities — while the automated audit trail eliminates the manual handling errors common at busy controlled area boundaries.

Glove-operable industrial display

An 18.5-inch Full HD multi-touch display with 300 cd/m² LED backlight is designed for operation in full PPE. Capacitive touch responds to gloved hands, maintaining usability in conditions where standard touchscreens fail.

Broad dosimeter compatibility

Supports EPD MKII, TruDose, RadEye, RadFlash, and DMC devices via an embedded multi-mode reader with IR, RF, and BLE connectivity. Facilities with mixed dosimeter fleets do not need to standardise hardware to deploy the RDR-460.

AES-256 encrypted storage

All dosimetry records are stored with AES-256 encryption by default. No configuration required. Meets security requirements for sensitive personnel exposure data in regulated environments.

Flexible mounting

Wall-mounted, floor-stand, or desk-stand configurations accommodate different facility layouts and entry point geometries. An optional 1D barcode reader supports sites using barcode-based worker identification.

RadSight Enterprise integration

Connects directly to RadSight Enterprise for centralised, multi-site dosimetry management. Works alongside Gatekeeper for complete controlled area access control — issuing dosimeters, verifying access rights, and logging all movement through restricted zones.

Broader facility access system integration

Beyond the Charthouse ecosystem, the RDR-460 connects with wider facility access and security infrastructure via dual Ethernet RJ45, USB 3.0, RS-232, and GPIO interfaces. For sites where the dosimetry boundary sits within a larger site-wide access control architecture, this connectivity means the RDR-460 can be integrated without requiring infrastructure changes or parallel systems.
